Diane and Andrew – Fostering in the East Midlands

Fostering in East Midlands

Hear from Diane & Andrew about their experience of fostering with The CFT.

We recently spoke with Diane about her experience of fostering at The CFT, alongside her husband Andrew. As a duo, Diane and Andrew have been foster carers with The CFT for around 2 years, and we got the chance to hear about their experiences so far at one of our recent foster carer support meetings in the East Midlands.

Diane and Andrew are exceptional foster carers and we’re proud to share their story of their inspiration, journey to approval, experience of CFT support and their advice to those considering becoming a foster carer.

Read on below!

How did you find the application and approval process with The CFT?

“It was daunting, but exciting going into the unknown. Once we made the initial contact, we were welcomed with open arms by everyone at The CFT. The application process with Lisa, our Supervising Social Worker, was perfect! We had comfortable conversations and mutual understanding, that made you look forward to the next visit. We enjoyed every little bit of the process!”

Why did you decide to foster with The CFT, rather than other IFAs or the local authority?

“We looked at a few agency websites, but The CFT stood out as warm and child-orientated and that made us look into their website more. Reading about the background and roots of the foundation, from 80 years ago, made us fall in love with what the CFT are about. After we made initial contact, we knew it was the right decision.”

What are your thoughts on the support and benefits that The CFT provide?

“The CFT supports you not only as a foster carer, but as a person, in abundance! All the training and courses that are provided cover a whole range of themes that are beneficial for a foster carer. The CFT went above and beyond, especially when our first foster child experience wasn’t plain sailing – our supervising social worker was more than supportive 24/7!”

What inspired you to become a foster carer?

“My sons inspired me to do something I would enjoy and love. Through experience, I knew that we could help and give love and stability to a child.”

Do you have any advice for anyone considering becoming a foster carer with The CFT?

“You’ll need empathy, patience and many transferrable skills. I would say don’t just ‘consider it’ – go for it! There are many foster carers needed, and many children needing a family home. Being with The CFT is like being a part of one big family.”
