Foster Care Fortnight 2017 – Foster Care Transforms Lives

Each year, Foster Care organisations and supporters of the Fostering Community come together in a two-week long campaign named “Foster Care Fortnight” (aka #FCF2017) to highlight the importance of fostering in the UK and to reiterate the needs for foster carers across our nation.

The theme for 2017 is ‘Foster Care transforms lives’, drawing attention to the difference that foster care makes to the lives of not only fostered children and young people, but also to the lives of foster carers, their families and all those who are involved in fostering. The Fostering Network states that “7,180 new foster families are needed in the next 12 months alone to care for a range of children, with the greatest need being for foster carers for older children, sibling groups, disabled children and unaccompanied asylum seeking children.”

As in previous years, CFT rallied behind the campaign and participated in Foster Care Fortnight is various different ways.

Many of our Staff and Carers took the time to have pictures taken with the official Fostering Network #ProudtoFoster and #ProudtoSupportFostering placards, which were used to highlight awareness of the campaign on social media channels.

In addition to this, some supporters of the organisation made video’s, we were covered in local news media and some of our Foster Carers took time out of their busy day to day schedules to take part in a radio interview about their experience of Fostering.

Overall, the campaign was once again well received and a real opportunity to highlight the current state of Fostering in The UK. CFT would like to thank everyone who took part in this year’s campaign, no matter how big or small, and would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Foster Carers, Staff and Supporters for continuing to help make a real difference to the lives of children & young people in care.
